As architects, we are often asked how much a certain project would cost.

Unfortunately, the most logical answer would be as vague as the question is - “depende”.

The truth is, the more information you give, the more basis the architect will have to answer your question.

Because that’s exactly how the architectural design process goes.

As the design progresses in each phase and more information becomes available, the more accurate the estimate will be.

Some basic information that would be helpful would be:

Type of Finish (Bare, Standard or Premium)

Size of the Project (you may start with the lot size or area of the space)

Type of Project and Location (residential, office, retail, etc.)

Space Requirements (room or areas you would like to develop)

This information will be helpful for you since this exercise will help in developing your project and will be useful when you describe your project to the architect.

So, the next time you approach an architect with a question, you’re sure to get more than a vague answer.
